First 40.7winner of the regatta Round the Island

Beneteau First 40.7boat “Anticipation” won the Petit Bateau RIOW race (Round the Isle of Wight) with skipper Pete Newland, and also came first in group 1. This British skipper is an active member of the British sailing during 12 years and several time winner of Olympic medal. His Beneteau First 40.7 is an overall winner in IRC competition after corrected time. The winner of class 2 was Simon Curwe with the boat Voador, J105, while the winner of class 3 was Oldenov Solan Goose with J92.The first boat to pass first the line was Scooby 3 (Dragonfly 800), with skipper Simon Forbeson.

Other competitors among forty boats were last year’s winner Mike Moxley with Malice (Hod 35), Simon Curwen (J105), Rory Carter (Dehler 34) and winner of Ostar race Mary Flak with her QII. With the big number of J105 class boats participating in the race; this was the first presentation of new JI22 class.

This is a race for solitaire organized for the second time by the Petit Bateau and Island Sailing Club from Cowes. The manager of the race Mr. Paul Peggs told us, that the main aim of Petit Bateau was to reinforce the sailing consciousness about solitary sailing and the extremely demanding routes. Since the founding of the sailing club Petit Bateau, during more than four years time, excellent races were organized for solitaires and two men. Attending all these races with the one around the island Wight,can take part in it, seized from 25 to 40 feet length, while special calculation is for class Mini 650.

The next race Petit Bateau organizes is PB 2007, an offshore regatta for solitaires. As expected a very large number or participants are already registered. The start of the race will run in Mylor (Falmouth) on the 17 of July and the competitors will have a route long 600 miles with five passing points: Kinsale, Baltimore, Fastnet, Dingle and Myflor.
